Welcome to a larger-than-life version of “Sensacional! Mexican Street Graphics.” This exhibit celebrates the art and designs that appear across Mexico. It compiles murals, flyers, products, paintings and posters that capture the essence, flavor, color and emotion in daily life in this country.
PROJECT DETAILS
These anonymous artists, many of whom lack technical training, produce their work in one shot, without preliminary sketches or planning. Sometimes the results are ugly, sometimes they are hilarious, charming, or beautiful. This spontaneity creates a visual richness that is a delight for the eyes.
This exhibition is organized by Juan Carlos Mena, Oscar Reyes and Déborah Holtz of Trilce Ediciones México, presented in cooperation with the Consulate General of Mexico in New York.
The Cultural Institute of Mexico
Sensacional de Diseño Mexicano” includes images of vernacular visual vocabulary seen around small towns, highways and cities of Mexico, as well as a selection of flyers, labels and comic books. The common denominator of this work: its authors don’t follow rules dictated by academy, plastic compositional conventions or current trends.
